proportional design

I'm sorry to see this class come to a close. I've enjoyed everyone's work. I beleive we have all come a long way with our designs. We all started off a little unsure of what we had gotten ourselves into but in the end our work shows how we have all improved. I've really enjoyed everyone's work as I hope you have enjoyed mine. Best of Luck to All.

College is done...for now.

Here is the final assignment. I fell off track there a bit toward the end without the movies, but I really enjoyed this class. In fact, I grabbed a copy of Adobe's Master Suite(don't ask) to play around with going forward...7G to do a full install!

Proportion

I had trouble with my marquee tools in photoshop so I used the paint software in accessories on microsoft. Hope it looks ok.

Proportional Design

These are my first attempts at this assignment. Hope to have time to do a couple more. I think I tried to due too much with the last 2. I think the proportions are easier to see in the first 3. I guess I'll stick to the KISS principle.

the last project

Jerry, I tried that last project but on Photoshop elements six on the marquee tool that you stated does not have vertical or hortizontal tools. I tried with the pencil but it did not work.
Sorry.

Enjoyed the class after all it was fun.

assingment 7

I found this black and white tree on google images. I pasted it 4 times rotated each layer. the left side to the right and the right side to the left, then I flattened the image.

The Art of Proportion

Here are some of my attempts at Proportion.
I added gradients to one, which gives it a different look, although it is a similar design to another I created.. All are posted on Photothing

Here's Positive and negative space. I chose the letter B and increased it size until I liked what I saw. The rest are on fotothing.

Project 14

For my final entry, I played with the textures in GIMP and came up with the wood theme that incorporates 5 different wood grains, I just thought it looks cool. The second one is my take on a baseball diamond and the last one is my rendition of a bumble bee, black and yellow are always strikings together. Thanks for all your kind comments on my past projects.

LETTER WRAP

Here is my attempt at letter wrap, and trying to get text to follow a path.
I could not get text to follow a path and have it turn out legible in Gimp. The results were jumbled, and in purple. I increased the size of my image, and then I could see an outline of my text, but couldn't do anything with it. It was almost like Gimp did not recognize the image. Any ideas on what I was doing wrong?

The Green and black image is the letter D which I used the curve distort on. I flipped the image and then repeated it.

The black and white image is the sentence "My 1968 Camaro is f f a s s t t t t" which I used the curve distort on to look something like the

Silhouette

of a car, and then made seamless, and repeated.

Letter Wrap

After I my first attempt something clicked with the tools and I was able to create a couple of designs that I'm really pleased with. These two designs were created using Canvas 9. To answer Jerrys question, I've been going back and forth between GIMP which I have on my home computer and Canvas 9 which I have at work. My work computer was upgraded just after we started this class and Canvas 9 was included as part of the software package. I had no past expericence using this type of software so each assignment has been a learning expericence for me.

This took me all night...I even installed CS3 as Gimp does not have an option comparable to warp that CS3 has. I bounced between programs until I came up with this less than worthy result.

Project 12

This was a cool project, the software was addictive once I figured it out. I could play with these designs for hours.

Assignment 11

Just starting to understand the use of the tools for this assignment. Here's my first design. More to follow.

Assignment 6

Positive and negative space. Finally got back to this assignment hopefully I got it right. I think by using the geometric shapes its easy to see the changes in positive and negative space. I changed things up in the last design but kept with the geometric shapes.

week 5

I just cannot seem to get colored added into to this but i will keep at it. I may know how to end it by the time the class ends. Moving along onto project 6. Wish me luck!!!!!!!!

I found this one to be a bit challenging. I had to put what I learned to work. I couldn't follow the video because it wasn't working right. I hope it came out right.

Assignment 10 # 2

I made another attempt at this. I still cannot get the shadow to reflect on the ground. Any suggestion? I think that this one came out a little better than the first. I also tried making multiply sphere and that did not work for me. I am not very artistic but I try my best.

Celtic Knot and Tesselation Projects....

Hi everyone... You may skip the projects on the syllabus labeled Escher Tesselation and the one on Celtic knots as those of you with Photoshop Elements won't be able to do them without a pen tool... CS2 and CS3 have it and undoubtedly Gimp does too... but to keep everyone on the same page, instead do the project titled proportion that I recently added...

We are heading into the last few days of the class... all the work will be due a week from today...

Hang in there... remember... ask for help if you need it... you should all be doing pretty well with the process by now... Remember to observe the deadline dates for withdrawals and incomplete forms to be filled out if you need that too....

Project 10 and 11

Well I'm back to using GIMP, my PSE6 trial ran out, but PSE6 really helped me with figuring out GIMP it's not as daunting a task as it was in week one. Anyway these are my two projects I did for this week, and I'm still working on another for the 11th project so keep an eye out for it on my fotothing page. I had some problem getting the blur tool to work to where I thought it should be.

Re-post of Positive/ Negative Space

Dear Jerry,

I hope I revised this project the way I was supposed to. For some reason this project confused me a bit. Please let me know if there is anything I need to change to get it right.

Thanks for your help, Steph

Assignment 8

I found this a fun assignment. I want to create some more images with different colors and try inverting with some different combinations of the sliced circle.

Assignment 7

I'm most pleased with the results of this assignment. I found an image of a bare tree and used that to create my stamp. I played with the contrast to change the lighting of the image.

Assignment 5

My images were not as artistic as ones that others created. I'm not sure if it's the font or size of the stroke that gave me problems. In the first image I chose the letter K and did a 60 degree image. Second image was a G in gigi font at 30 degrees and the third was a Y in papyrus font at 30 degrees. Last 2 images were both done with the 6K image.

Assignment 4

Sorry for not being able to post my work but I,ve been away for an extended period of time. I have done my best to keep pace with the assignments. I will be posting several assignments except for assignment 6 which is giving some trouble. In my first attempt I didn't invert the images just pasted them. Here they are inverted.

I experimented with this project, and was happy with the results. I could not figure out how to cast a shadow onto the largest sphere from the small sphere in the upper right. Anyone have any ideas??

The Cropped Letterform

I used the letter G for the Cropped Letterform project. As usual, once the image was repeated many times, it produced an intersting design.

Assignment 5-Quater Circle and Cropped Letter

I found this particular to be very challenging. I didnt like it as much as the other projects at all. The cropped letter I chose was k.

Photo Stamp

Of the two photos I chose to use, I think the black and yielded more interesting results. I'm having some problems with some blank areas showing up when I tile the images, can anyone offer any ides as to why?

Could it be the way I crop the images?

Joe

Week 5 projects

Dear Jerry:

I've had big trouble with my photoshop 4.0 software, and had to buy the 6.0 version to do my projects. I'm finally posting this, and will finally be able to get caught up. WEEK 3 ASSIGNMENT

This is challenging but I'm trying...

THE THIRD PROJECT

this project was very difficult when using gimp. thank for help jerry...

Photo Stamp

The photo I chose for my project was a wallpaper picture of a Ferrari 360 Modena. I chose this car because the design of the exterior in itself is a piece of art. The car is beautiful so it must make for a beautiful project. The first two images are cropped from the front of the car. The third image is a single crop of the rear of car. Finally the mid section of the car was used to form an accordion image .

Everyone is getting very creative!

I made opposites images for the first two images of this project, both the 80% and the 50% images. The inverted images of the same design do create drastically different images. I also placed this link on the upper right of the blog "Direct Link to Videos" so you won't loose it!

Videos

Hi Prof your videos for the next assignment are both slurred. If you can pls redo those videos so that I can follow the instructions, on how to do the next assignment it will be greatly appreciated.

Assignment 4-Project II

This project was a very creative one. The image I used was actually apart of a tree but because of the rainbow background when I regrouped the picure, it turned out to actually look like a flower in bloom. I didnt know it would turn out like that but it was really cool.

Assignment 4-Project I

These projects keep getting better and better. I felt this project allowed me to advance my creativity because I used photos. The first picuture used more white as the backfround and black as the objects. The second picture used more black as the background and white as the object. The last picture was cool because it uses equal amounts of black and white. I had a lot of fun with this project!

Hi Prof: sorry it took me so long to do my work, but I had a death in the family my uncle succummed to his illness, so I had to go out of town . I tried my best with this. These assignments are very difficult in gimp. Next time I have to try the photoshop. I hope that I did this correctly.

Hello Professor,

I sent this comment to you on 4/11/2008 but , not sure if you have received it.

Sorry, I did send the email to your campus cruiser. I have reviewed the videos and I layout out the tool bar, canvas, the same way you do but, you have a third column that you use alot in the videos and I had it but it's gone. You use the little eye and other tools in that seperate box. How can I get that seperate tool bar? I'm going to work on it some more when I get home. Thanks for your help!

The following is a stimulation of the top left image. My line control is off but I am still working on how to mimic this image correctly. In trying I noticed that gimp have similar features to photo shop but the two programs operates a little differently. Therefore, to help keep up with the class I will look to obtain photo shop and see which one works best for me…PS. There are some great images posted on the blogger. “I hope to keep up with such creativity”.:>)

Rotation of the letter I

I must say this was the most challenging for me. It took a great bit of practice for me to conqure this one! I tried to stick to a letter that had points on it. I used the letter I in english III vivance bt. Once I figured out what I was doing; I liked it. I think I will try a few more. I will try to incorporate color.

My Fotothing id is bm222. i'm having problems with the "get link feature" if anyone's got any suggestion please let me know.
